Hundreds of students at Sarvodaya Inter College in Kishanpur, Uttar Pradesh Fatehpur district, successfully secured major infrastructure commitments from the district administration after staging a peaceful protest over inadequate educational facilities on Tuesday.

The demonstration, led by students of Classes 11 and 12, highlighted long-standing issues affecting the learning environment, including the lack of electricity, non-functional fans, unsafe drinking water, insufficient classroom furniture, and poor maintenance of campus infrastructure. Established in 1952, the government-aided institution caters to around 1,800 students.

Gathering outside the college premises despite hot and humid weather, students carried placards and raised slogans demanding immediate improvements in basic amenities. Their protest focused on ensuring better academic conditions rather than political issues, with participants calling for urgent administrative intervention to safeguard students educational interests.

The demonstration drew the attention of district education officials, who held discussions with the students. The protest concluded after the administration provided written assurances addressing most of the demands.

District Inspector of Schools Rakesh Kumar confirmed that the administration had agreed to implement several measures, including the installation of four ceiling fans in every classroom, repair and concealment of faulty electrical wiring, and the provision of desks and benches within a month. Authorities also committed to installing an RO water purifier and a water cooler to improve access to safe drinking water on campus.

In addition, officials assured students that the quality and distribution of midday meals would be monitored more effectively to ensure better implementation of the scheme.

However, the demand to introduce a science stream at the college remains pending. According to officials, the institution must first obtain the necessary recognition from the Uttar Pradesh Board and develop the required infrastructure, including laboratories and other prescribed facilities, before approval for the new stream can be considered.
