Lucknow | The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Lucknow (IIIT Lucknow) has steadily emerged as a promising centre for advanced learning and innovation in the field of Information Technology. Established as one of the 20 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) set up by the Government of India under the Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model, the institute reflects a forward-looking approach to technical education aligned with national development goals.
IIIT Lucknow began its academic journey in the 2015–16 session, admitting its first batch of 50 B.Tech students in Information Technology. Since then, the institute has focused on creating an academic environment that nurtures technical competence, innovation, and a strong sense of responsibility toward society and the nation.
Admissions Through National-Level Competition
Admissions to IIIT Lucknow are conducted through centralized counselling based on JEE (Main) ranks, ensuring a transparent and merit-based selection process. The institute provides its students with comprehensive academic and non-academic facilities designed to support holistic growth and professional excellence.
A Strong Public–Private Partnership Model
The institute is being developed with financial and strategic support from the Ministry of Human Resource Development (now Ministry of Education), Government of India, the Government of Uttar Pradesh, and U.P. Electronics Corporation Limited as the industry partner. This collaborative framework enables IIIT Lucknow to maintain a strong connection with industry needs while upholding academic rigor.
Vision for a World-Class IT Institution
IIIT Lucknow envisions itself as a world-class “Apex Centre of Excellence” in Information Technology, contributing to India’s technological strength in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. The institute draws inspiration from India’s rich intellectual traditions while actively working toward the creation of knowledge-based resources in regional languages, reinforcing inclusive and sustainable technological growth.
Permanent Campus in a High-Tech Ecosystem
The permanent campus of IIIT Lucknow is being developed on 50 acres of land at Chak Ganjaria, in the Gomti Nagar Extension area of Lucknow. Strategically located, the campus is just a few kilometres from the upcoming international cricket stadium and sports complex, adding to the region’s growing infrastructure.
The institute is also surrounded by the ambitious 100-acre IT City SEZ project, being developed by the HCL Group. With an estimated investment of ₹1,500 crore, the IT City is expected to generate 25,000 direct jobs and nearly 50,000 indirect employment opportunities, creating a vibrant ecosystem of industry, innovation, and research around IIIT Lucknow.
