Big Relief for Students and Colleges; Research Center Status, Co-Ed Proposal, and Ranking Workshops Also Announced

In a major reform aimed at improving transparency and equal opportunities in higher education, Lucknow University has announced that government and aided colleges can now join its centralized admission process without paying any fee. The decision was taken by Vice-Chancellor Prof. J.P. Saini during a meeting with college principals on Tuesday. Colleges have been given 10 days to complete the formalities.

Centralized Admission Free for Govt and Aided Colleges

Earlier, colleges were required to pay ₹50,000 per course to be part of the centralized admission system. While private institutions participated actively, several government and aided colleges opted out due to financial constraints, resulting in vacant seats as students shifted to private colleges after Lucknow University seats were filled.

With the fee now waived, students who fail to secure admission at Lucknow University will have equal opportunities to enroll in affiliated government and aided colleges through the same centralized process.

Research Boost: Departments to Get Centre Status

In another important announcement, the Vice-Chancellor said that eligible college departments will be granted recognition as research centers. This move is aimed at promoting academic research, strengthening postgraduate studies, and enhancing the overall research ecosystem under Lucknow University.

Proposal to Convert Girls’ Colleges into Co-Ed

Expressing concern over declining student enrollment in girls’ colleges, Prof. Saini proposed converting some of them into co-educational institutions. The step is being considered to increase admissions, optimize infrastructure, and ensure better academic sustainability.

Six-Monthly Meetings to Improve University-College Ties

To improve communication and coordination, the Vice-Chancellor announced that meetings with principals will now be held every six months. Emphasizing collaborative growth, he stated that the university’s progress depends on the well-being and satisfaction of its affiliated colleges.

NAAC and NIRF Ranking Preparation Workshops

To enhance institutional rankings, Lucknow University’s ranking cell will organize joint workshops to assist colleges in preparing for NAAC accreditation and NIRF ranking. The university aims to adopt a professional and solution-oriented approach to resolve institutional challenges effectively.
