Day 15 of sit-in at Lucknow University escalates as opposition leaders rally behind expelled students

The indefinite sit-in protest at Lucknow University has entered its 15th day, with expelled students Prem Prakash, Prince Prakash, Harshit Shukla, and their associates continuing to demand justice over disciplinary action taken against them. The protest, primarily centered around fee hike concerns and student rights, has now drawn wider political attention.

On the 15th day of the agitation, Seema Rajbhar, National President of the Samajwadi Mahila Sabha, extended her support to the protesting students, marking a significant political endorsement of the ongoing demonstration.

Speaking at the protest site, opposition leaders launched a sharp criticism of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government and the university administration. They alleged that education is being increasingly commercialized, making higher studies unaffordable for students from economically weaker sections, including marginalized, backward, Dalit, minority, and general category families.

They argued that punitive measures such as FIRs, expulsions, and administrative crackdowns against protesting students are inconsistent with democratic values and the constitutional rights of expression and dissent.

According to them, the ongoing protest at Lucknow University is not limited to a fee-related dispute but represents a larger struggle to protect affordable education, democratic freedoms, and students’ constitutional rights.
