In a significant relief for JEE Advanced qualified candidates, IIT Roorkee has allowed students awaiting the outcome of Class 12 board re-evaluation, scrutiny, or marks verification to continue participating in JoSAA Counselling 2026.
The institute has clarified that candidates whose current board examination scores fall short of the prescribed eligibility criteria will not be immediately excluded from the admission process if they have applied for re-evaluation or verification of marks. Such students can proceed with choice filling and other counselling formalities while awaiting their revised results.
Provisional seat allotment to be based on JEE Advanced rank
According to the institute, eligible candidates in this category may also receive provisional seat allotments during the counselling process based on their JEE Advanced 2026 rank.
The move is expected to benefit thousands of aspirants who have qualified JEE Advanced but are still waiting for their board examination review results, which could potentially improve their scores and help them meet the admission requirements for IITs.
Existing eligibility criteria remain unchanged
IIT Roorkee has emphasized that the existing Class 12 eligibility criteria remain in force.
Students belonging to the General, OBC-NCL, and EWS categories must secure at least 75% marks in their Class 12 examination, while candidates from SC, ST, and PwD categories are required to obtain a minimum of 65% marks.
The relaxation applies only to the timing of document submission and participation in counselling, not to the eligibility benchmarks themselves.
Revised marksheet must be submitted by July 15
Candidates whose marks improve after re-evaluation, scrutiny, or verification and who subsequently meet the required eligibility criteria must submit their revised marksheet to orgjee@iitr.ac.in on or before July 15, 2026.
The institute has advised students to ensure timely submission of updated documents to avoid any complications during the admission process.
Admission confirmation after fourth round
IIT Roorkee stated that candidates who satisfy the eligibility requirements following the revision of their board examination marks will be considered for admission against the seat allotted to them at the end of the fourth round of JoSAA counselling.
The decision provides a crucial opportunity for students whose IIT dreams were hanging in the balance due to pending board result reviews. By allowing them to stay in the counselling process, IIT Roorkee has ensured that deserving candidates are not disadvantaged by delays in the re-evaluation system.
