The indefinite sit-in protest at the University of Lucknow entered its fifth consecutive day on Saturday, with students continuing to press for dialogue with the university administration over issues related to fee hikes, alleged financial irregularities, and the expulsion of three students.
The protest began after the expulsion of three students, with demonstrators demanding that the decision be revoked. They are also seeking the rollback of recent fee increases, reinstatement of the expelled students, and greater transparency in administrative processes. Students have stated that the sit-in will continue until their demands are addressed.
Protesting students claimed that no university official has visited the site or initiated any formal communication since the beginning of the agitation. They alleged that repeated appeals for discussion have gone unanswered, deepening the ongoing impasse on campus.
The agitation has also drawn support from several political and student leaders. Former MP P. L. Punia joined the protest site, criticising the administration’s response and calling the disciplinary actions against students disproportionate. He expressed support for the students’ demands, describing them as part of a broader call for accountability and fair education practices.
Former Lucknow University student union leaders, including Ramesh Srivastava, Rakesh Singh Rana, and Anil Singh “Veeru,” also visited the protest site and extended support, demanding a review of the disciplinary actions.
From the political sphere, Samajwadi Party MLC Rajendra Chaudhary met the protesting students earlier and assured them of support, stating that their concerns deserved attention. Party leader Pradeep Sharma also visited the sit-in, expressing solidarity with the movement.
The protest has seen growing participation from the student community, with several students, including Prince Prakash, Prem Yadav, Harshit Shukla, Abhishek Srivastava, Mahendra Yadav, Vipul Yadav, Ansh Patel, and others, joining the sit-in in recent days. They reiterated demands for accountability, transparency, and meaningful engagement from the university administration.
As the sit-in continues, students maintain that they remain open to dialogue but insist that official intervention is necessary to resolve the ongoing deadlock at the University of Lucknow.
