Lucknow University is set to redefine humanities education by introducing Artificial Intelligence and advanced computing concepts into its Bachelor of Arts curriculum from the 2026–27 academic session. The initiative is part of the university’s larger expansion into emerging technology-driven programmes designed to prepare students for evolving industry demands.

For the first time, BA students at the university will be able to study Computer Science alongside humanities subjects such as Psychology, Education and Women and Gender Studies.

Technology meets humanities

The programme will focus on practical and application-oriented learning, including Artificial Intelligence, AI tools, Python programming and advanced computing concepts relevant to humanities disciplines.

According to university officials, around 75 seats will be available in the BA programme with Computer Science combinations. The curriculum has been designed to help students understand the growing role of technology in fields such as sociology, economics, psychology and public policy.

Experts associated with the programme believe the integration of technology with humanities will help students develop socially responsible and ethically driven digital solutions.

Focus on industry-relevant skills

The interdisciplinary model is expected to create opportunities in research, policy analysis, digital communication, education technology and behavioural analytics. University officials say the courses are being structured in a way that students gain both conceptual understanding and practical exposure to emerging digital tools.

Alongside the BA initiative, Lucknow University is also launching several specialised programmes in Artificial Intelligence and advanced computing.

Diploma and certificate courses on AI

The university will introduce four degree courses, two diploma programmes and two certificate programmes under the APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Innovation. These courses are expected to focus on innovation, AI applications and real-world problem-solving.

Short-term AI-focused programmes in areas such as medical services, education and media are also being planned to encourage interdisciplinary learning and innovation among students.

Admissions open for new BCA specialisations

Meanwhile, admissions have opened for new BCA specialisations including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Science and Analytics, Cyber Security and Forensics, and Internet of Things. Each programme will offer 75 seats.

With these additions, Lucknow University is positioning itself among the institutions focusing on interdisciplinary and future-ready education, where technology is no longer limited to engineering streams but is becoming an essential part of mainstream academics.
