DSMNRU approves integrated BEd courses, plans physical education department

University also introduces five-day work week, multidisciplinary programmes and green campus initiatives

Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU) has approved several new academic programmes, including integrated BA-BEd, BSc-BEd and BCom-BEd courses under the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), during the 41st Academic Council meeting chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sanjay Singh.
The university also discussed plans to establish a dedicated Physical Education Department, paving the way for future professional courses such as BPED and MPED.
New teacher education courses get green signal
According to university spokesperson Prof. Yashwant Veeroday, the Academic Council approved the proposal to launch Integrated Teacher Education Programmes aimed at strengthening professional teacher training and expanding academic opportunities for students.
The newly approved courses include:
• BA-BEd
• BSc-BEd
• BCom-BEd
The move is expected to align the university with evolving national education priorities focused on integrated and multidisciplinary learning.
Physical education department under consideration
The council also deliberated on the establishment of a Physical Education Department at the university. Once introduced, the department is expected to offer specialised programmes like BPED and MPED in the coming years.
Departments directed to introduce multidisciplinary courses
To promote interdisciplinary education, the Academic Council directed every department to introduce at least four multidisciplinary courses. The initiative aims to provide students with broader academic exposure and skill-oriented learning.
Five-day work week approved
In a major administrative decision, the university approved the implementation of a five-day work week as part of energy conservation efforts inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s sustainability initiatives.
Under the revised schedule, university offices and classes will operate from 9:30 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday, while Saturdays and Sundays will remain holidays until further orders.
Fridays to be observed as no-vehicle day
The university also decided to observe every Friday as a “No-Vehicle Day” and “Cleanliness Day” to encourage environmental awareness and maintain campus hygiene. Vehicular movement inside the campus will be restricted on Fridays.
Additionally, summer vacations have been declared from June 1 to June 30.
Registrar Rohit Singh, Deputy Registrar Anil Mishra, Dean Academics Prof. V.K. Singh, Prof. P. Rajeevan Nayan, along with Academic Council members and university officials, attended the meeting.
