Lucknow University extends NEP benefits to LLB courses, students to get automatic semester promotion

New policy to be implemented from the current academic session, bringing major relief to law students in three-year and integrated five-year programmes

Campus Times | Lucknow

In a significant academic reform, Lucknow University has announced the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) provisions in its three-year LLB and five-year integrated law programmes from the current academic session itself. The decision will directly benefit hundreds of law students studying at the university.

The move assumes immediate effect, meaning students currently pursuing the second semester of LLB first year will also come under the ambit of the new policy framework.

University spokesperson Prof. Mukul Srivastava said that in accordance with the NEP guidelines and keeping examination outcomes in view, students enrolled in the three-year and five-year LLB courses will now be promoted from odd semesters to even semesters. The decision is expected to provide substantial academic relief to students who were awaiting clarity on promotion rules under the revised education structure.

Automatic promotion from odd to even semesters

Until now, the NEP framework had not been implemented in the university’s law courses. With this development, the Faculty of Law will now align its academic structure with the broader reforms being adopted across higher education institutions in the country.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. JP Saini said instructions have already been issued to the Faculty of Law and concerned department heads to finalise the revised curriculum and promotion regulations at the earliest to ensure smooth implementation and avoid inconvenience to students in the future.

He added that modernising legal education in line with global academic standards and simplifying students’ academic progression had become an urgent necessity. According to the university administration, the promotion system under the NEP framework is expected to make legal education more student-friendly and academically flexible.

The decision is likely to impact a large number of students enrolled in the university’s law programmes and marks a major shift in the institution’s approach towards legal education reforms.
