AKTU to Launch Quantum Technology Minor, Trains Faculty with IBM Ahead of 2026–27 Session

Five-Day FDP in Lucknow Aims to Equip Teachers with Cutting-Edge Quantum Computing Skills
Campus Times | Lucknow
In a major step toward future-ready education, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) is set to introduce a Minor Degree program in Quantum Technology for B.Tech students starting from the 2026–27 academic session. The initiative reflects the university’s commitment to aligning with emerging technologies under the National Education Policy (NEP).
Faculty Training Key to Student Success
To ensure effective delivery of this advanced curriculum, AKTU is focusing on strengthening its teaching ecosystem. Under the guidance of Vice Chancellor Prof. J.P. Pandey, the university is organizing a five-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) in collaboration with IBM. The training will be held from May 11 to May 15 at IBM’s Lucknow center.
The FDP aims to equip faculty members with practical knowledge and hands-on exposure in quantum computing—an area rapidly gaining importance in both academia and industry. The university has directed all affiliated institutions to nominate at least two faculty members each for the program, with the deadline for nominations set as May 2.
Preparing Students for the Future
With quantum technology emerging as a transformative field, AKTU’s new minor program is designed to give students a competitive edge in next-generation computing. By training educators first, the university is ensuring that students receive high-quality, industry-relevant instruction.
The collaboration with IBM is expected to play a crucial role in bridging the gap between theoretical learning and real-world applications, making AKTU graduates better prepared for global opportunities in quantum computing and related domains.
