A vibrant and informative program was organized on April 22 at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University under the 8th edition of Poshan Pakhwada, bringing together students, scholars, and faculty to focus on the importance of nutrition and healthy living. The event was conducted by the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit, aiming to spread awareness about balanced diets and emerging nutritional concepts.

The session commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Taruna, Programme Officer of the NSS unit, who introduced the audience to the objectives and significance of the initiative. Setting the tone for the event, she emphasized the need to adopt healthy dietary practices in today’s fast-paced lifestyle.

Understanding Nutrients and Their Role

The highlight of the program was an insightful address by Prof. Sunita Mishra from the Department of Food and Nutrition. In her keynote speech, she shed light on the growing relevance of nutraceuticals and functional foods—describing them as not just sources of nutrition but also as powerful agents with medicinal benefits. She explained how these foods play a crucial role in preventing diseases and promoting overall well-being.

Prof. Mishra further elaborated on essential nutrients, herbal supplements, and their therapeutic applications, stressing the importance of proper dosage and informed consumption. She also discussed key components such as glucose, sucrose, fructose, and coenzymes, explaining their role in energy production and metabolic functions.

Reinforcing the message of “Health is Wealth,” she underlined that a balanced diet remains the cornerstone of a healthy life, especially in an era where lifestyle diseases are on the rise.

The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from teachers, non-teaching staff, research scholars, NSS volunteers, and students, making it a successful and engaging awareness initiative.

Through such meaningful events, the university continues to promote health consciousness and empower individuals with knowledge to make better lifestyle choices.
