AKTU Introduces Marks for Discipline, Communication & Activities Under NEP 2020

50-Mark General Aptitude Paper Mandatory; Students to Be Evaluated on Behaviour, Skills & Teamwork

Campus Times | Lucknow

In a significant reform aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) has announced a new evaluation system that will award marks for discipline, communication skills, and co-curricular activities, aiming at the holistic development of students.

Under the revised curriculum, undergraduate students across AKTU and its affiliated colleges will now have to appear for a mandatory 50-mark General Aptitude paper, which will carry academic credits.

Focus on Holistic Development

The university has introduced a structured marking system that goes beyond academics. Students will now be assessed on:

10 marks for discipline and moral values — including attendance, adherence to rules, respect for faculty, and overall conduct

10 marks for communication and leadership skills

10 marks for co-curricular activities

10 marks for teamwork and collaboration

10 marks for professional and technical skills

This initiative is designed to encourage not just academic excellence but also personality development, ethical behaviour, and social responsibility among students.

Continuous Evaluation System

According to university officials, the assessment will be conducted on a semester-wise basis. Faculty members will closely monitor students’ participation, behaviour, and performance in various activities throughout the academic session.

To ensure proper implementation, each department will assign a dedicated faculty member responsible for evaluating students on these parameters.

Bridging Skills with Education

The move is expected to prepare students better for real-world challenges by strengthening soft skills, teamwork, and professional competencies, making them more industry-ready.
