In a major step toward bridging the gap between academia and industry, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with German tech giant Siemens EDA to provide cutting-edge semiconductor training to its students and faculty.
Under the agreement, Siemens EDA’s industry-leading tools and modules will be integrated into AKTU’s B.Tech and M.Tech curricula. Additionally, dedicated certificate courses will be launched, allowing students to pursue them as skill-based programs, with the credits earned counting directly toward their academic results.
Industry-Ready Talent, Global Standards
The initiative aims to produce a skilled workforce aligned with the growing demands of the semiconductor industry. By collaborating with Siemens—a global leader in Electronic Design Automation (EDA)—AKTU will ensure its students receive world-class, internationally benchmarked training.
AKTU Vice Chancellor Prof. J.P. Pandey stated that while select Siemens tools will be embedded within regular B.Tech and M.Tech programs, students will also have the flexibility to independently pursue training on any of Siemens’ 25+ specialized tools, earning separate certificates upon completion.
“This will be especially beneficial for students who wish to exit with a certificate midway, while also serving as a strong value addition for those continuing their full degree,” Prof. Pandey noted.
What’s in It for Students?
Industry-recognized certificates with academic credit weightage
International-level training aligned with global semiconductor standards
Enhanced employability in the fast-growing semiconductor sector
Flexible exit options for students opting for skill-based pathways
Faculty members will also benefit by gaining exposure to emerging technologies and staying updated with the latest industry tools.
What’s Next?
Looking ahead, Prof. Pandey revealed that the university is exploring the launch of similar certificate courses in a summer training format, in collaboration with select industry partners—further expanding experiential learning opportunities for students.
With global demand for semiconductors rising and India positioning itself as a key player in chip manufacturing, AKTU’s partnership with Siemens EDA comes at a strategic moment—equipping the next generation of engineers with the skills the industry urgently needs.
