In a move set to strengthen higher education opportunities for youth, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday approved the establishment of “Metro University” in Greater Noida.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by chief minister Yogi Adityanath, with officials highlighting the government’s continued push towards expanding access to quality and employment-oriented education in the state.

Higher education minister Yogendra Upadhyay said the university will be set up under the provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities Act, 2019, which governs the establishment and regulation of private universities in Uttar Pradesh.

According to officials, the proposed university will be developed by Sunhill Healthcare Pvt. Ltd. on a 26.1-acre land parcel allotted by the Greater Noida Authority. The proposal received approval after scrutiny of legal and procedural requirements, and an amendment to the Act’s schedule will be carried out through an ordinance to facilitate its establishment.

Government sources said the new university is expected to offer industry-aligned and skill-based courses, catering to the evolving demands of the job market. The focus will be on integrating modern infrastructure and technology-driven learning methods to enhance student outcomes.

Officials added that the project is likely to expand higher education capacity in the region while also creating opportunities for employment, internships, and skill development.

The approval is part of the state government’s broader strategy to encourage private investment in education and position Uttar Pradesh as an emerging hub for higher learning.
