More Seats, More Chances: LU Adds 1,430 UG Seats, Launches Tech Courses

Admissions set to ease as varsity adds 1,430 UG seats; major push for tech and law programmes

In a move that could ease the admission rush, University of Lucknow is set to add more seats and introduce industry-ready courses starting 2026–27.
The university has added around 1,430 seats in undergraduate self-financed courses, offering relief to thousands of aspirants. Among the key programmes, BSc (Mathematics) has seen an increase of 287 seats, while BSc (Biology) has added 155 seats. Provisions for economically weaker sections (EWS) have also been factored into the expansion.
Focus on future-ready courses
In line with the National Education Policy (NEP), the university is introducing new-age programmes in high-demand fields. The computer science department will launch four BSc courses — AI & Machine Learning, Data Science, Internet of Things (IoT), and Cyber Security — with 75 seats each.
At the postgraduate level, MSc programmes in data science and cyber security have been introduced, while the intake in computer science has been doubled, signalling a strong shift towards tech-driven education.
Law courses see major jump
The five-year integrated LLB programme has witnessed a sharp increase in capacity, with seats rising from 176 to 330. In addition, a new BBA-LLB course has been introduced, expanding options for law aspirants.
Commerce streams have also received a boost, with increased intake in BCom (Hons) and MCom programmes.
More courses, wider opportunities
The university is also diversifying its academic portfolio with new programmes in retail management, hotel management, journalism and tourism. A total of 662 seats have been added at the postgraduate and diploma levels.
A minor degree programme will be introduced in online mode, giving students greater flexibility in learning.

Officials said the expansion is aimed at bridging the gap between academics and industry requirements while improving access to higher education. With a clear focus on emerging sectors and increased intake, University of Lucknow is positioning itself to cater to the evolving aspirations of students.
