In a renewed push to ensure universal education, Yogi Adityanath on Saturday launched the ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’ for the academic session 2026–27, setting the tone for a massive statewide enrolment campaign.
The initiative was formally inaugurated from Varanasi, but parallel programmes were organised across districts to turn the drive into a people’s movement. The campaign will run in two phases — April 1 to 15 and July 1 to 15 — targeting maximum student enrolment and retention.
At its core, the campaign focuses on ensuring that no child is left out of school. Authorities have planned a combination of enrolment drives, awareness rallies, and community engagement programmes involving teachers, parents, and public representatives.
Officials said children enrolling during the campaign will receive free textbooks and school bags, while schools will host cultural events and outreach activities to attract and motivate students.
Director General of School Education Monika Rani emphasised that the government’s priority is to bring out-of-school children back into the mainstream education system. Special efforts are being made at district, block, and school levels to identify such children and ensure their enrolment.
The campaign is also designed to go beyond routine administration by creating a festive and participatory atmosphere in schools. Awareness drives, rallies, and public interactions are expected to play a key role in spreading the message of education for all.
With this initiative, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to strengthen foundational education and move closer to its goal of 100% enrolment, making education not just accessible—but unavoidable—for every child in the state.
