Lucknow University Gets Approval for 32 Major Research Projects

From pollution to cancer research, LU leads with highest grants; Ramayana to be translated into Persian

In a major boost to academic research, University of Lucknow has received approval for 32 research projects from the Higher Education Department of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Grants worth several lakhs of rupees have been sanctioned to support these initiatives.

The approved projects span key areas such as environment, healthcare, food quality, education, and child nutrition. Under the Centre of Excellence scheme, 19 projects have been funded, while 13 projects received support under the Research and Development category. These studies will be conducted across departments including Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Statistics, Commerce, and Physics.

Among notable grants, Dr. Madhu Kamble from the Biochemistry department has been awarded approximately ₹9.79 lakh for research on pest management in stored grains. In the Zoology department, Dr. Paramjeet Singh and Dr. Tripti Yadav have each received ₹4 lakh for studies on anti-cancer compounds and eco-friendly pest control strategies. In Chemistry, Dr. Sushil Kumar Maurya has been granted ₹3 lakh, while Dr. Vijay Kumar Rai received one of the highest grants at ₹7 lakh.

Top Ranking for Research Proposals

Under the Centre of Excellence scheme, Lucknow University secured the highest number of approved projects and funding among universities in the state. Following a detailed evaluation by an expert committee, its proposals were placed in the top category. Out of a total allocation of ₹2.47 crore for seven universities, LU alone received 19 major projects.

Focus on Environment and Agriculture

In the Botany department, Dr. Ajay Singh has been awarded ₹10.40 lakh to study the use of selenium nanoparticles to reduce the impact of heavy metals on crops. Research will also explore the role of millet crops in sustainable agriculture.

Key Studies on Pollution and Health

Dr. Aditya Abha Singh will conduct research on air pollution and plant tolerance in Lucknow. Additional studies in the Chemistry department will focus on water quality and chemical contamination in the Ganga, while Zoology researchers will examine health-related issues such as fibrosis and protein alterations.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. J.P. Saini stated that the Centre of Excellence initiative will significantly enhance research quality at the university and help improve its national ranking.

Language University to Translate Ramayana into Persian

Meanwhile, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Language University has also received grants worth ₹15.80 lakh for 10 projects under the same scheme. Notably, Dr. Arif Abbas from the Persian department will work on translating the Ramayana into Persian, along with an in-depth study aimed at strengthening cultural and literary ties between Indian and Persian traditions.
