Under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Health Mission (ABDM), students in universities and degree colleges will soon receive an Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) to digitally store and access their medical records. The health accounts will be linked with the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS), allowing doctors to view a student’s medical history online if they seek treatment at institutional clinics or hospitals.

The initiative follows directions issued by the University Grants Commission in collaboration with the National Health Authority. The digital system will enable easy access to treatment and pathology records, reducing the need for physical medical documents.

Colleges to Get Nodal Officers

Higher education institutions will implement HMIS and appoint a nodal officer to oversee the system. The National Health Authority, in partnership with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), has developed the e-Sushrut Clinic platform to support the initiative. The system will also allow students to access medical consultations and book OPD appointments online.
