In a significant boost to pharmaceutical education and research, the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Lucknow University has received approval from the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) to start two postgraduate programmes — M.Pharm (Pharmaceutics) and M.Pharm (Pharmacology).

The approval will come into effect from the 2026–27 academic session, with 15 seats available in each programme. The recognition allows the university to expand its pharmacy education from undergraduate to postgraduate level under national academic standards.

The university already runs B.Pharm (Bachelor of Pharmacy) and D.Pharm (Diploma in Pharmacy) courses, which are also approved by PCI.

Research Opportunities to Expand

With the introduction of these postgraduate programmes, research in pharmaceutical sciences is expected to gain momentum. Students pursuing M.Pharm (Pharmacology) will study the scientific effects of medicines on living organisms, including how drugs are processed in the body and how they influence different biological systems.

The programme will also help students understand drug absorption, action mechanisms, and the development of new medicines for disease prevention and treatment.

Career Opportunities

Graduates from these programmes can pursue careers as pharmacists, researchers, drug developers, pharmacy managers, and biotechnology consultants. Opportunities will be available in pharmaceutical companies, research laboratories, hospitals, healthcare institutions, and academic organisations. Students can also establish their own pharmacy ventures and enter the healthcare entrepreneurship sector.

A Major Milestone for the University, Says VC J. P. Saini

“Recognition for the M.Pharm programmes is a significant step towards strengthening the university’s academic reputation. It will open wider opportunities for students in quality education, advanced research, and specialised skill development,” he said.

The addition of these programmes is expected to further strengthen pharmaceutical education and research ecosystem at Lucknow University, benefiting students aspiring to build careers in the rapidly growing healthcare and pharma sectors.
