Data Verification in Final Stage; Funds Likely to Be Transferred by Mid-March
Campus Times |Lucknow
The fee reimbursement of nearly 8 lakh students in Uttar Pradesh is likely to be released this month, with the Social Welfare Department currently carrying out the final verification of beneficiary records.
Officials said the National Informatics Centre (NIC) has been directed to complete the data verification so that payments can be released without delay.
16 Lakh Students Already Received Benefits
According to departmental officials, about 16 lakh students have already received the scholarship and fee reimbursement benefits during the current financial year. Another 8 lakh eligible students are still awaiting payment, and their records are presently under scrutiny.
Once verification is completed, the department plans to transfer the reimbursement amount directly to students’ bank accounts by mid-March. Authorities have confirmed that adequate funds are available, ensuring that all eligible students will receive their payments.
Eligibility Criteria
Under the scheme:
- SC/ST students from families with an annual income up to ₹2.5 lakh are eligible for the benefit.
- Students from other categories with annual family income up to ₹2 lakh can also receive scholarship and fee reimbursement support.
Centre–State Funding Pattern
For Scheduled Caste (SC) students, the reimbursement amount is shared between the Central and State Governments, with 60% funding from the Centre and 40% from the State.
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Government fully funds the reimbursement for General category students from its own resources.
The scheme plays a crucial role in supporting students from economically weaker families and ensuring uninterrupted access to higher education across the state.
