The Innovation Hub of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) hosted a dynamic two-day workshop, “Flight From Scratch: Drone Design & Making,” aimed at helping school teachers bring cutting-edge drone technology into their classrooms.

Designed to make STEM learning more practical and exciting, the workshop introduced educators to drone design, aerodynamics, flight control systems, and hands-on assembly. The goal: move beyond textbooks and empower students with real-world tech skills.

The program was conducted under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. J. P. Pandey, with guidance from senior university officials. Technical sessions were led by Abul Kalam Khan, Founder & CEO of AirM, Spyral, who demonstrated how building drones from scratch boosts creativity, problem-solving, and innovation among students.

What Teachers Learned

  • Basics of drone technology
  • Key components like frame, ESC, flight controller, battery, and sensors
  • DIY drone assembly
  • Classroom applications in science, math, physics, and robotics
  • How drone tech connects to startups and future careers

Why It Matters

Drone projects promote experiential learning, blending coding, engineering, and physics into one exciting activity. With drones playing a major role in agriculture, disaster management, delivery systems, and defense, students can explore real career pathways while still in school.

The workshop opened with a felicitation of the keynote speaker and saw active participation from university officials and faculty members.

Teachers called the training “inspiring” and “future-focused,” saying it will help them make STEM education more engaging and innovation-driven.

With initiatives like this, AKTU continues to push forward youth-centric, technology-led education that prepares students for tomorrow’s opportunities.
