Yogi Adityanath Government Raises Class 9–10 Scholarship from ₹2,250 to ₹3,000; Major Education Push Before New Financial Year

Campus Times| Lucknow

In a major pre-Holi announcement set to benefit millions of families, the Uttar Pradesh Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has rolled out an expanded scholarship initiative for Other Backward Class (OBC) students.

According to official sources, nearly 38 lakh (3.8 million) OBC students across the state will receive financial assistance in the upcoming financial year — a move aimed at strengthening access to education among economically weaker sections.

Scholarship Hike for Classes 9 and 10

In a key highlight of the announcement, the government has increased the scholarship amount for Class 9 and 10 OBC students to ₹3,000 which earlier is 2,250. The enhanced amount is expected to ease the financial burden on families and encourage students to continue their studies without interruption.

Officials said the revision reflects the government’s intent to ensure that “no deserving child is deprived of education due to lack of funds.”

School to Higher Education Coverage

The scholarship scheme will support OBC students at all levels — pre-matric (school), post-matric (intermediate & undergraduate), and higher/technical education.

According to the Department of Backward Class Welfare, the expanded coverage aims to boost OBC student participation in colleges and professional institutions across Uttar Pradesh.

Eligibility & Online Process

The scholarship will be granted to students whose family income falls within the prescribed eligibility limit set by the state government. Authorities have clarified that the income ceiling is designed to ensure targeted delivery to genuinely deserving beneficiaries.

To maintain transparency and efficiency, the application and fund disbursement process will remain fully online. The department has also set timelines for timely distribution to prevent delays that could affect academic sessions.

Boosting Youth Education

The Yogi’s Government says the expanded scholarship plan is aimed at strengthening youth education and inclusion.

Officials believe it will reduce dropouts, increase higher education enrollment, and improve opportunities for OBC students. Adequate budget provisions have been made for smooth implementation in the next financial year.
