The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has completed mandatory biometric updates for over one crore schoolchildren across India under its nationwide Aadhaar update drive. Conducted in mission mode with state education departments, the campaign covered nearly 83,000 schools.
Biometric updates are mandatory at five and 15 years of age to ensure accurate Aadhaar data, which is essential for accessing government services, welfare schemes, scholarships, and examinations. UIDAI facilitated updates through school-based camps, Aadhaar Seva Kendras, and enrolment centres, completing about 1.3 crore transactions during the period.
The authority waived update charges for eligible age groups and used UDISE+ data integration to identify beneficiaries. UIDAI said the drive will continue to cover all eligible children nationwide.
Process to Apply
Parents or guardians can get the biometric update done by:
- Attending Aadhaar update camps organised in schools
- Visiting Aadhaar Seva Kendras or authorised enrolment centres
- Biometric details such as fingerprints, iris scan, and photograph are captured once the child crosses 5 years of age and again at 15 years.
Outreach Strategy
UIDAI reached beneficiaries through schools, local administrations, and awareness campaigns. School authorities coordinated with parents to ensure maximum participation, especially in underserved regions.
Documents Required
- Child’s existing Aadhaar number
- Proof of identity and address (as applicable)
- Parent/guardian’s Aadhaar
- No additional documents are required for standard mandatory biometric updates.
UIDAI stated that the campaign will continue until all eligible children complete their biometric updates, ensuring uninterrupted access to government services and welfare schemes.
