Art, culture, and unity in diversity take centre stage at university event

A vibrant celebration of Himachal Pradesh Day was organised at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University on April 15, highlighting a rich confluence of art, culture, and the spirit of unity in diversity. The event brought together academicians, scientists, and students to honour the cultural heritage of Himachal Pradesh.
Eminent Minds Add Prestige to the Event
The programme was led by Vice-Chancellor Raj Kumar Mittal, with S. Victor Babu as Chief Guest. Noted scientists Sandeep Sharma and Ashwini Bhardwaj from CSIR–Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, along with Monica Sharma and Manoj Kumar Dadwal, graced the occasion.
Ceremonial Beginning and Welcome Address
The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and a floral tribute, followed by the university anthem and a formal welcome of the guests. In her opening remarks, Dr. Monica Sharma outlined the objectives of the programme, emphasising the importance of cultural awareness and inclusivity within academic spaces.
Emphasis on Cultural Unity and Heritage
Addressing the gathering, Raj Kumar Mittal highlighted the importance of such events in celebrating India’s cultural diversity. He described Himachal Pradesh as the “Land of Gods,” noting that its rich traditions and eco-conscious lifestyle reflect a deep harmony with nature and promote unity among students.
Chief Guest S. Victor Babu praised the simplicity and cultural richness of the people of Himachal Pradesh, adding that their values strengthen social harmony while also recognising the state’s contributions to India’s freedom struggle and its natural beauty.

Sharing their views, Sandeep Sharma emphasised the deep-rooted cultural and moral values of Himachal Pradesh, while Ashwini Bhardwaj praised the university for helping individuals stay connected to their roots even away from home.
Competitions and Cultural Showcase
The celebration included competitions such as rangoli, quiz, and poster-making, with winners receiving certificates and mementos. A documentary on Himachal Pradesh was screened, while cultural performances by students and faculty added vibrancy to the event.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Manoj Kumar Dadwal, followed by the felicitation of guests with mementos and traditional Himachali caps. With enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, scholars, and students, the celebration stood as a vibrant tribute to India’s rich cultural diversity.
